One of the major renovations getting underway this spring in Scott Library is the installation of compact shelving on the 3rd Floor Scott. The compact shelving project will affect materials with call numbers A through DA 560, oversize volumes, theses, and the reference collection.
The main subject areas are Philosophy, Psychology, Religion, Auxiliary Sciences of History (archeology, archives, inscriptions, etc.), General History (World History, Medieval History, Modern History and Europe), and History of Great Britain and Ireland.
The collection located on the 3rd floor of Scott must be relocated during the installation.
- Some of this collection will be relocated and available for browsing
- Some will be moved to a closed-stack area and will be available by request and the theses are going into closed stacks and will also be available upon request
- Some materials will be boxed up and relocated to an off-campus storage facility where they will not be accessible.
- Most of the Scott Reference collection will not be available during the renovation project.
- New books and returns for Scott Reference, A to DA 155 will be shelved for the project period on the last four ranges of the Reference Stacks.
- New books and returns for Z’s will be reshelved at the end of the range on the fifth floor.
- Increased signage and extra staff will be on hand to help you locate your materials.
During the moving process, the elevator will be in service for a substantial portion of the day.
Members of York University Libraries have been finding creative solutions to alleviate the impact.
