Third Floor Updates

• The movers are busy moving books into the new compact shelving on the third floor. We anticipate completion late next week. The area is not accessible yet, but should be soon.
• Oversize books are back on the shelves

First Floor

• You may notice that the circulation desk looks a little different. This is because it will resurfaced to give it a whole new look.
• All painting is scheduled to be completed mid-way through next week
• New signage will be installed
• Keep your eyes open for new artwork!

Accessibility Services Announcement

• The Adaptive Equipment Room, Room 134, has been reopened after being closed for a month and everyone is enjoying the new look

3rd Floor

• The installation of the compact shelving is now complete and the books are starting to be returned to the shelves. All books should be back in place by Sept. 4th.
• The floors in the study areas are being prepared for the instillation of the new furniture. The tables and carrels will be wired for both power and Internet and will have lighting as well

1st Floor

• Group study rooms have been painted and will be put back together shortly
• Everything is progressing as planned! Keep your eyes open for new features like a newly refinished circulation counter and a new wall to separate the new quiet study area from the main entrance
• New art work will also be installed on the first floor

First Floor

• Have you noticed the new colours? The painting in public areas one the first floor has been mostly completed.
• New tiles on the first floor will start to be installed this weekend. The work will have to start from the main doors and work inward. There may be some disruption of regular traffic patterns as tile work is completed around the doors, but don’t worry! You will still be able to get into the libraries.
• Tile work should be completely finished by next Tuesday.

Third Floor

• We are still on track for a July 27 completion of the third floor shelving!

1st Floor renovation update

• painting of the walls in the Accessibility Services area and Circulation department started Friday July 7th after library hours.
• workers will begin laying the tile floor in the front foyer of the library on Friday July 13, again working after the library closes for the evening.
• during the week of July 13-20 new carpet will be laid in Accessibility Services and the Circulation department.

3rd Floor renovation update

• 4 of the 6 rails for the new compact shelving has been installed
• the drilling/coring for the electrical wiring will begin on the evening of Monday July 9 and continue into the week.

Of note is that on completion of this renovation project over 300 new wired workstations for students will be added to the library.

Visitors to the Scott Library will be aware of the many changes underway this summer.

First Floor

Currently new flooring is being installed in Central Square, first floor of Scott. New wall colours will be coming soon to compliment the new furniture and other improvements in the study area on the first floor. Four group study rooms are replacing rooms that have been dismantled to make room for a new computing site next to the copy center. The new floor at the entrance to the Library should be completed over the Canada Day holiday weekend.
Third Floor

The new compact shelving system being installed on the third floor is progressing, the first two sections, representing 10,000 linear feet of shelving is having the finishing touches applied and the remaining two sections start assembly this week. Once the shelving is fully installed, the collections will be returned to Scott from their temporary locations.

Both areas of renovation are running ahead of schedule which will be good news!

Central Square

• Computers have been removed and will return later in the summer in their new space next to the copy center. The printer remains next to the exit desk for the time being.
• Furniture in the group study rooms G to V has started to migrated in anticipation of the installation of new carpet. The remaining carrels have been removed this week as well, many are being recycled into new locations in Scott and elsewhere on campus.
• The reserve desk public computers were relocated to the circulation side of the service desk. All reserve transactions regularly move to the circulation side in the summer.

Third floor

• Carpet installation on two of the new compact shelving sections has been completed
• The shelving installer will start this week assembling new shelving. As each section of rail and floor are installed, carpet follows and then new shelves.
• This part of the project is ahead of schedule but it is too early to speculate on the dates when books will be returned to their shelves.
• Beginning last week, carpet on the Government Documents seating and shelving will be removed. Working around the existing shelving, carpet will be lifted and then replaced in two weeks time.
• Study tables will be removed to allow carpet contractor to lift and replace that area as well.
• New wired tables will be installed later in the summer.
• Access to the collections in the Government Documents stacks should not be impeded, except in any area where contractor is actively working on the floor. Restrictions will be temporary.

*Wherever floor surfaces are being renovated, users and staff are advised to be aware that surfaces will be safe but unfamiliar.

Accessibility Services is open for business during the first floor renovations. Beginning June 11th access to this department will be gained by approaching from the right side of the Circulation Desk as admittance to the Reserves Section of the library is closed for renovation.

The Adaptive Equipment Room is available for use for the month of June. Effective Tuesday July 3rd this room will be closed until Tuesday July 31st for painting and the installation of new carpeting. To ensure students have access to adaptive equipment and assistive technology Room 145 North Ross will be available for use during this time.

Hours of operation for this centre are as follows:
Monday – Thursday 9a.m. – 9p.m.
Friday 9a.m. – 4p.m.
Saturday 12p.m. – 5p.m.
Sunday 12p.m. – 5p.m.

Renovations continue on schedule with the bulk of the work planned for the next six weeks.  (Please note that whenever possible this work will be conducted when the library is closed, i.e. overnight and on holiday weekends).

First Floor Updates:

• As of Monday June 11 the study rooms on the first floor of the library will be closed for approximately one month
• Accessibility Services has been moved elsewhere on campus for the month of July.
• Work will start in the open study study areas with carpet removal beginning some time next week. Painting will then be done and after this new carpet laid.
• The old foyer tile (in front of the circulation desk) will be removed towards the end of June and new tile will be laid over the July 1st weekend.

Third Floor Updates

• Starting next week workers will be removing old carpet on the third flood and laying new carpet. This will include the 3rd floor study area and stacks directly above the Scott Ref. Dept, but you will still have access to the books in the stacks.
• New tiling in the 3rd floor entrance way/escalator area will be done over the July 1st long weekend when the library is closed.

Due to a power failure in HNES, all lighting and power systems are shut down.

As a result, any requests for items from HNES made late yesterday or today will have to wait an additional 24 hours to be processed.
Once the power has been restored and our staff are able to safely access our storage facility in that building, we will retrieve any outstanding requests. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Now that the third floor space has been stripped of books, shelves carpet and furniture, the new shelving and furnishing are about to be installed. Seven tractor trailer loads of shelving and thousand of square yards of new carpet are about to be installed. Total installation time for the new mobile shelving will be about six weeks. New shelving will increase collection capacity by 50% and allow space for added study seating.
